What are the benefits of massage?
There are so many benefits but some include: improves circulation, lowers blood pressure, boosts immunity, rids body of toxins, aids digestion, softens tight muscles and improves flexibility, reduces pain and anxiety, decreases inflammation, improves skin tone, reduces scar tissue. Even the most gentle massage can be profoundly therapeutic simply due to the benefits of stress-relieve through relaxation.
When should I get a massage
Anytime is a good time. Even if you don't have any problems or issues the many health benefits from massage make it a great preventive health alternative.
When should I NOT get a massage?
There are several medical conditions that make massage inappropriate. Some conditions include fever, severe cold, infectious disease, liver and kidney diseases, blood clots, heart disease, high blood pressure, toxemia, acute injury, open sores, and pregnancy-induced diabetes. Massage can be okay if certain conditions are adequately controlled by medication. If you have certain health problems or are taking certain medications just ask me and I might advise you to get approval from your physician before receiving a massage treatment.
It is also not advised to receive a massage within 24 hours of consuming alcohol.
What should I expect during my first massage visit?
I'll have you fill out a health history form, ask general questions concerning problem areas or conditions that you would like addressed, and develop a plan for your treatment. Then I'll explain the procedures for getting on the table and the sequence I will use. I may ask if you'd like to enjoy some aromatherapy during your treatment.
Will I have to completely undress?
You should undress to your comfort level. For a full body massage, most people undress completely, but if you feel more comfortable you may leave on some undergarments. Just know that you will be covered with a sheet or towel at all times except the area being worked on.
What do I do during a massage?
Just relax......occasionally I might need to ask for feedback about pressure or adjust your position, but otherwise make yourself comfortable. Some people like to talk, some just like to close their eyes and let their minds float away ......I'll leave that up to you.
How will a massage feel?
It depends on the techniques used. My massages start with broad flowing strokes to warm tissue, calm the nervous system, and relax exterior muscle tension. I'll gradually increase pressure to release tension in specific areas, sometimes using tools such as bamboo to get deeper. You might experience a "good hurt" if I work on tissues that have been tight for awhile but the pain intensity should be no more than 6-7 out of 10 on a pain scale. Don't be afraid to tell me if you'd like more or less pressure.
What type of oil or lotion is used on my skin?
I mainly use a natural massage gel made with Jojoba which is most similar to oil secreted in our skin.
It leaves the skin feeling very soft and moisturized without feeling greasy. I also have an assortment of other massage oils, lotions and cremes on hand, some scented. If you have a sensitivity to certain types of products please let me know.
How will I feel after a massage therapy treatment?
Most people feel relaxed and experience a good nights sleep afterward. Some people feel energized and experience heightened awareness and greater productivity. Just understand that if trigger points or tight muscles are released you may experience soreness in those areas but for no longer than a day.
What should I do after a massage?
Take it easy......and since a massage treatment stirs up the release of toxins and cellular waste from soft tissue it is very important to drink plenty of water or flu-like symptoms can develop.
How often should I receive a massage?
Most people who get regular treatments get at least one massage a month especially if it's mainly for relaxation and prevention, Those that experience chronic pain or have had an injury or surgery often schedule more frequent sessions.
Will I massage children?
Yes, I can modify the pressure to be appropriate for smaller bodies. I can modify the price according to size of the child. Anyone younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult and/or have a parent/guardian schedule the appointment and sign a permission form.
